What's wrong with my dependencies??

Please see the set up below.

QUESTION: Why are my dates not aligning properly (ie, have a month gap) when the dependencies are set as follows:

  • Parent Task (Dependencies, Blocked By CTask1 FF, Blocked By CTask2 FF, Blocked By CTask 3 FF)-- NO DURATION
  • ---- CTask1 (Blocking Parent Task FF, Blocked By Trigger Task 1 FS, Blocking CTask2 FS ) – 7 days
  • ---- CTask2 (Blocking Parent Task FF, Blocked By CTask 1 FS, Blocking CTask3 FS) – 7 days Has random month gap between CTask 1 ending and CTask 2 starting
  • ---- CTask 3… now has random month gap

@Michelle_Wong11,

Dependencies help when changing dates using the “Preview” or similar option to respect the dependencies and when there’s a conflict.

Setting dependencies alone doesn’t necessarily guarantee any behavior on its own.

You can read about all the details by searching for “Dependencies” in the Asana Help Center; there’s a lot of detail!

Thanks,

Larry

Hi @lpb ,

Thanks for providing insight, but that doesn’t clarify why, if I set a dependent task, my dates (when Maintain Buffer is on) do not shift if the first task in the chain shifts.

Unless you are saying that dependencies do not impact dates?

@Michelle_Wong11,

If you meet these Requirements for auto-shifting dates and it’s not working, please Try these troubleshooting steps, then please create a support ticket: see How to contact our Support Team.

Thanks,

Larry
