Complex Project Management- Dependencies and Auto-Shifting dates

Hi all-

I’m building a new (physical) product development project template in Asana, and I’m having issues with the auto-shifting of dates.

Issue: Dependent Tasks are not date shifting to new dates.
Example: Task 1 shifts to end on 3/7/25. Task 2 (FS) should then start on 3/8/25.
Observations: the shifted task moves in the Gantt chart, but none of the dependent tasks do.

Notes: many tasks overlap, or are managed concurrently, sometimes I will need to adjust durations and dates that impact multiple tasks.

Any thoughts?

Hi @Michelle_Wong11 , if your dependency lines are red, that means there is an overlap and therefore the dependent tasks will NOT shift. They need to end and start on a different day, not the same day.

Hi Richard,

Just to make sure I understand this correctly, no tasks can run concurrently?

For FS, yes! I haven’t experimented enough with the other dependency types, to be honest. But if the line is red, it’s flagging that it won’t autoshift.

That.is.crazy.

Thanks so much for the answer!!
