What limitations does the free version have?

Hi,

Before I invest time into setting up my Asana workspace, I need to understand which features will be restricted after the 30-day free trial. I encountered an issue with ClickUp where, after extensive setup, their payment system wouldn’t accept my bank card (they claim my zip code is invalid, but my bank confirmed the problem is on their end). Consequently, many features, like custom fields on task cards, became blocked in the free version.

I noticed that Asana’s paid version requires a minimum of two seats, which pushes the price beyond $13.95/month. However, I’m the sole user of Asana, and I should not be paying for additional seats I won’t use. Is there a way to get the $13.95/month plan for just myself?

Additionally, I’d like to confirm the limitations of the free version. For example, in my Client Database project, I’ve set up custom fields and automation rules. I plan to use custom fields extensively in my Social Media project board as well. What restrictions will I face with custom fields and integrations in the free version?

I’d appreciate anyone providing clarification before proceeding. I have tried submitting this question to Asana directly through their online form TWICE and I have never received a response back. Not even a “we received your message, someone will be in touch soon” type of confirmation. There is NEVER anyone available on the live chat either. Not sure why that’s even an option on the webpage.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Minnie_Goldman , welcome to the forum

You can visit the below link, scroll down to ‘Compare all features’ for a grnaular comparison of the free Personal plan compared to the paid plans.

As you can see, Custom fields and Rules are available on the paid plans. The will all become locked or unavailable once your free trial period ends.

The minimum seats you need to purchase are two, for Starter or Advanced plans.

If you pay annually you get approx. 2 months free so the minimum cost for Starter, for example, would be USD $263.76 per year, for 2x seats.

Well, I guess it’s time to move on. I can’t justify paying that much just for myself. The pricing is really misleading—there’s no indication that a minimum of two seats is required until you click on the plan a second time, then notice the default is set to five seats. It’s only at that point you realize there isn’t even a single-seat option. Plus, it’s clear their customer service is lacking. Thanks anyway!
