Hi everyone!
Longtime forum lurker, first time forum poster here.
I need to find out how many video projects my marketing team has completed this year (January 2021 to now). We build pretty much all of our work as projects rather than tasks. I was thinking I could use the advanced search to find all projects with “video” in the title, but that doesn’t seem to be an option. When I put “video” in the project field in search, it wants me to select one video project rather than letting me see all of them. When I just search for “video” across everything it gives me a lot of stuff I don’t need (including all the tasks within our video projects, like “schedule shoot date” and “upload to YouTube”). That volume of search results makes it so I can’t really count up the number of projects or generate a useful report.
We use a video template to create these projects, so it would be cool to be able to see all the projects created from a certain template, but I don’t see a way to do that.
Any ideas for how I could find the information I’m looking for or create a way to find it in the future? I’m thinking maybe I need to add a custom field for “project type” with options that match our custom templates (video, print project, website update, etc.).
Any ideas welcomed.
Thanks in advance!
Hi @anon82801154, congratulations on your first post! We are happy you’re here!
It’s not currently possible to view all projects created from a template but I think this could really improve Asana! I’ve gone ahead and moved your post to the #productfeedback category to give other Community members the opportunity to upvote your suggestion!
Hopefully this is something our Product Team could implement in the future!

Hi @anon82801154 and welcome,
You could consider adding to the template a single task “Project created from Video Template” and marking it complete to keep it out of the way of regular work. Create a Saved Search Report looking for that string. In the search results you’ll see one entry for every project created from the Video template. Multi-select them for a count. Do something similar for each of the other template types you need to count instantiations of.
Hope that helps,
Larry

This is a BRILLIANT workaround; thanks for sharing!! We’re just starting our Asana journey and I’ve been wondering how to track the same thing. So great!

This is a great idea! We work from templates for the majority of out projects, creating multiple new projects per week. It would be awesome to be able to quickly reference how the projects made from a template.
