Hi everyone, I received an email regarding updates on Asana + SharePoint and Asana + OneDrive attachment integrations. This is the message:
"We are currently updating our [Asana + SharePoint] and [Asana + OneDrive] attachment integrations, to ensure that our apps are only requesting the authorization scopes that are needed. These enhancements help Asana better fit our customers’ enterprise-level compliance and security requirements, and may require some action on your end depending on your organization’s IT protocols.
We will begin a phased roll-out of these improvements, starting the week of August 1, 2024. Prior to the phased roll-out, we ask that you follow the steps below to ensure a seamless transition for your employees using file attachments from Sharepoint and OneDrive in Asana:
-
Your Microsoft Admin will need to update the integration permissions in the Microsoft Azure portal (see instructions and relevant scripts [here])
-
End users will then be asked to re-authorize the integration in order to continue using SharePoint and OneDrive attachments "
I just looked at it yesterday since I was on vacation. Our tech is on vacation, the person who sent me the message from Asana is on vacation too (both returning after the beginning of the updates), I’m having trouble contacting Asana and I’m not able to do the changes myself since i don’t have Microsoft Entra/Azur. Our organisation cannot loose access to Sharepoint-Asana integration. Is there something I can do? I must say that I would have appreciated a longer delay between the email and the updates with all the summer vacations…
Thanks
*Not a solution, but marked as such because it’s the best available option.
@Anne-Sophie_Monat - all of us here on the forum are eager to help, but nobody here has the proper access to help you – that would be something only support could help with.
I strongly recommend you contact support ASAP to see if they have any suggestions of how to possibly delay the rollout for your org or assist you in some other way.
How to contact the Asana support team:
(FYI: I don’t work for Asana. I’m just replying to try to help you.)
To create a support ticket:
- Please go to help.asana.com
- Click the chat icon at the bottom right
- Type “ticket”
- Click “No, I’d like to make a ticket”
- Click “Something Else”
- Click “Create a support ticket.”

And remember, after submitting the ticket, once you get the confirmation email stating that your ticket was received, just wait for a reply. Responding prematurely to your own ticket will cause it to go “to the bottom of the pile” again.
Rooting for you!
Thanks a lot for the reply.
Since I wrote that, i fond Microsoft Entra, but before doing anything, since it’s not my job, I would like to know if someone did the changes in Microsoft Entra to be sure it’s safe and it will not cause problems to other apps linked to Microsoft.
Someone apply the procedure? Everything is ok?
Thanks
Hi Anne-Sophie, hi all,
Anne-Sophie, have you figured it out ?
I have just received the same e-mail. We are a small team and I am the non-expert “tech” of the company so I’m struggling to go through all of these configurations.
To start with, I am glad to have figured that Azure IS now called Entra, AND I somehow stumbled on the Entra space from our MS365 admin page. From there, in the “Enterprise applications > Consent and Permissions” page I can see that we already have, as default configuration, the Option 1 : “Allow user consent for app”.
So I suppose that for us, there’s nothing more to do ? Can someone confirm this ?
Also, it is unclear to me, in the video and e-mail received from Asana, if we must make the proposed changes BEFORE the update on Asana’s side, or AFTER ? If we change this before, will it impact the behavior or the app and the ability to attach files or to read attach files for our Asana users until the update is made on Asana’s side ?
Finally, before I found the “Consent and Permissions” page for all our apps, I followed the video tutorial and didn’t realize I was following Option 2 : I went to the app pages, to “Attach OneDrive files to Asana”, to the Permissions page as required, clicked the “Grand admin user” button, and then removed the “File.ReadWrite.All” permission. However, I didn’t find how to add the File.Read.All permission. So now, is this going to impact the behavior of Asana ?? How can I fix this ?
Any help is welcome ! Thank you !
Hi Nadège,
I think I figured out but i’ll know for sure when the update will be in place. I did option 1 though (there was no video when i received the email). My understanding is that you have to do the option 1 before the update if you want it to work. The team will only have to authorize Asana to go on the Sharepoint. If the procedure is not done, the team will not be able until the procedure is done. Since I did not do the Option 2, unfortunately i cannot help you since my understanding of all this is not good enough. Sorry. But the tech support could probably help you.
Good luck with all this, I know it’s not easy when you’re not a pro!

Thank you! I won’t touch anything more and I’ll wait and see what happens.
