My team is struggling to build out a method of using Asana to track and report out on our strategic goals’ KPIs. Our KPIs are things like “X% of stakeholders have adopted an AI governance policy” and “capture X% of contract revenue.” So, measures that have nothing to do with task or milestone completion.
Asana’s methods of measuring itself feel very clear, e.g. using the Dashboard tab of a project or portfolio to measure things like # of tasks completed, # of projects on track/at risk/off track, etc. We’re also familiar with the ability to manually track custom measures on Goals.
What neither of those solutions seem to offer is the ability to visually represent progress toward our complex, non-task KPIs over time. Thinking something like a line chart with a target line for each KPI that we can export periodically for leadership’s review.
3rd party integrations are okay as long as the data entry and report exporting processes are user friendly for rank & file (non-tech expert) staff. We’re hoping to avoid having to train staff on a separate piece of complex software.
Appreciate any tips!
Adding that we are at the Enterprise tier.
Hey Megan, I love the question. Starting from the second part of it, since I think I have an idea - when it comes to “capture a certain percent out of contract revenue,” I would suggest creating a goal and then using the Salesforce integration to measure the goal’s progress. As for the other suggestion, I’ll dig around and would let you know what I found
Hi everyone!
I’m excited to announce we just launched benchmark lines in charts. You can now set a horizontal reference line directly on your chart to represent a target, budget cap, SLA goal, or any value your team needs to see at a glance.
Here’s what you get:
Set a benchmark value: Add a y-axis value to your chart as a clear visual reference point. Think budget targets, SLA thresholds, or sprint goals.
Name your benchmark: Give your line a custom label so everyone knows exactly what it represents.
Visible to everyone: The benchmark line appears for all chart viewers, including those with view-only access, so the whole team stays aligned.
Whether you’re tracking budget utilization against a cap, monitoring SLA performance, or measuring team velocity against a sprint goal, the benchmark line gives you instant clarity. One look and you know if you’re above, below, or right on target.

@Emily , this is a great addition to dashboards charts but I feel the original request by @Megan_Bendixen is asking for adding a benchmark in the Goals progress chart. Unless I’ve misunderstood.
You are right! Sorry for the confusion, I’ve reopened the topic!
Thanks, @Emily_Roman! The benchmark capability does help. What we’re really looking for, though, is a way to track non-task KPIs in the dashboard. This may already exist and I just haven’t found it yet. For example, one of our KPIs this year is “# of members with an AI strategy in place.” How would we track that within Asana’s dashboard feature?
Hi @Megan_Bendixen I saw your post here and am sure I could help with this. Our team at BlinkMetrics builds custom reporting dashboards and I personally have been a heavy Asana user since 2010
We have an official integration here: BlinkMetrics + Asana • Asana so we can easily build KPIs and reports on your Asana data (and other data sources if you’re trying to mix KPIs from another system)
If you want to talk through the KPIs you’re trying to pull, I’m happy to dive into it with you.
