⌨️ Syntax highlighting in text editors is now live!

Hi Community,

Syntax highlighting in Asana’s text editors is now live for all customers!

:sparkles: What’s new

  • Syntax highlighting that works consistently, with support for a growing list of languages (JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, SQL, HTML, XML, CSS, JSON, YAML, Bash/Shell, Go, and C#)
  • A language selector so you can set the right context for your code
  • Light and dark themes
  • Line numbers, code folding, auto-close brackets, and auto-indent as you type
  • One-click copy to clipboard

When code renders correctly, your team can review it rather than decode it. Sharing a script in a task, documenting a query in a note, or walking a stakeholder through a spec - the content stays scannable and copy-ready.

A big thank-you to everyone who shared feedback in Code snippets in Asana. That conversation asked for better code formatting and syntax highlighting, and this launch delivers it.

This launch combined with the recent Make key details pop with text ✨ highlighting ✨ also completely solves another open feature request from the Community: Highlight text and code section in Task Description

We plan to expand beyond Tier 1 into additional language tiers and consider deeper editor features in future iterations.

Share your questions or feedback below. :slightly_smiling_face:

Just so folks are aware. This is not shipped for mobile yet. Maybe we’ll get some mobile consistency one day!
