I know this has been a topic before, but it was not resolved, and the question remained unanswered: If going to “my tasks” it is a natural assumption that all my tasks will appear in it, and my team/org does not know that their subtasks will not appear for them—as it is a natural assumption that all task will appear in my tasks—what is the reason for subtasks not being included in My Tasks? Subtasks may have an earlier due date than the parent task, so subtasks will go undetected. …rendering subtasks somewhat pointless. Am I missing something here?
Hi @Susan_Moulton, subtasks, although housed within the parent task, can have different assignees. If a subtask is unassigned, or assigned to another individual it will not appear the ‘My Tasks’ section of the parent task’s assignee.

@Susan_Moulton, In addition to @Jeremy_Long’s good answer…
If the parent task is assigned to the user, they’ll see it, and can discover it has subtasks. It’s then up to them if they would like to assign themselves to the subtasks for added flexibility.
If the parent task is not assigned to the user, then it’s the responsibility of others seeing that task to assign subtasks if that’s needed.
Thanks,
Larry
