Stage field not appearing

I have a project that moves a task automatically to different sections based on pre-set rules. When a new task is added, it is added to section A, which then moves to section B based on a date-sensitive rule.

My question is when the task is on section B, I can clearly see and edit the Stage Field (which appears at the top of my custom fields). However, when the task is still on Section A, the Stage Field does not appear.

I can’t also seem to add the Stage Field in List View as it does not appear in the list of custom fields that are hidden.

Is the Stage field not in the Customize > Fields list of this project, and maybe tasks get it when the rule runs and the task is multi-homed (added to another project) because it’s defined there?
