Slack messages in rules, accessibility and persistence

Hello,

My team has noticed that we can’t use Slack markdown in Slack message rules (for accessibility it is recommended that you embed URLs in plain language like this

Slack’s recommended markdown is <url|link text>

When you try to use this in a rule, it fails and looks like this in Slack

When I use the link in the rule like so:

I get this in Slack:

We also noticed that using a URL in any form in the message directly results in the URL (and any text after it) not being persistent in the rule:

The only option seems to be creating a text field and holding the URL there, but that also doesn’t allow us to embed the URL as readable text. I don’t see any limitations in the help center article that would account for this. Are there recommendations for creating accessible links in Slack?

Hey @Chris_Bulin, You’ve run into a known limitation—Slack-style link markdown (<url|link text>) isn’t supported in Asana’s Slack message rules. The integration treats the entire string as plain text, so links don’t render as formatted or accessible.

Right now, the only workaround is to include the full URL directly in the message (e.g., https://asana.com) and rely on Slack’s automatic preview feature—but that doesn’t meet accessibility guidelines and isn’t great for readability.

Currently there’s no way to embed user-friendly link text via Asana rules. If this is important for accessibility in your workflows, the best move is to share it as feedback or a feature request with Asana’s team—highlighting accessibility use cases can help drive priority.

Thank you Ayush!
