Welcome Jon! All the tasks showing up as “no project” are subtasks of another task - at the moment Asana doesn’t assign projects to subtasks, only to the parent tasks, which is very annoying as it creates the problem you’re seeing there.
This forum thread is for people who want Asana to fix that, so head to the top of the thread and hit the Vote button if you agree that it needs to change!
I’m not sure how that could possibly be overlooked but definitely voting for it!

I’m excited to announce we just launched the ability to see the project associated with any subtask directly in the Projects column of My Tasks! This enhancement allows you to identify the project a subtask belongs at a glance, without needing to open the subtask
