Is there are way to share a task in a workspace to someone not in the workspace, and have them only see the task not the project it is assigned too?
Read about “Limited Guests”. I believe if it truly is a Workspace and not an Organization, it will take one of your member seats.

Hi @Stephanie4! Yes, you can invite them to the task by adding their email address into the collaborator field (you see the option to “Invite” them).
If you only add them to a specific task, they will only be able to see this task (You can learn more about Guest status in this article: Asana FAQs and common questions | Product Guide • Asana Product Guide). Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions!
