Set tasks to repeat on a certain day of every n-th month (Repeats: Custom)

After seeing the option to set tasks to repeat on a certain day of the month being released (Set tasks to repeat on a certain day of the month 🔁), I’d love to see this feature being carried over to the custom repeats option. For example: repeat every 2nd Monday of every 3rd Month.

Yes indeed, mine was about an option to repeat every n-th weekday of every n-th month. Since now it’s only possible to opt for a certain weekday of each month.

Any word on when this is going to be added to the Custom repeat? It’s extremely silly for Asana to add ‘repeat on Nth Tuesday’ every month but not when I need it for something that happens every 3 months.

they also missed a subtle difference in that i’m trying to schedule a recurring event on the first tuesday of every 2 months…there does not appear to be any feasible way to do this (custom or monthly). i can either do it every x months but on a specific DATE, or i can do it like every 8 weeks, but that’s not the same thing as the first tuesday of every 2 months. i see LOTS of threads about this dating back to 2017 and then asana seemingly thinking they solved this issue in 2024, but that is definitely NOT the case.

Feedback:

When setting a custom recurring task, the current options only allow choosing a specific date number (e.g., every 15th of the month). However, this can land on weekends, which is a problem for teams that don’t work on weekends.

I’d like the ability to set a recurring task to repeat on a specific weekday within a monthly interval — for example, “every Monday, every 3 months” — similar to how calendar apps like Google Calendar handle recurring events.

This would ensure tasks are always due on a workday, reducing the need to manually adjust due dates each cycle.

Hi @Christine_Perez2 ! Thanks for the feedback! I can see how a recurring pattern like “every Monday, every 3 months” would be useful, especially to avoid due dates landing on weekends.

Asana doesn’t currently support weekday-based monthly recurrence patterns, but I’ve shared your feedback with our team.

Workarounds:

• Set the task to repeat every 12 weeks on Monday to keep it on Mondays (week-based, not calendar-month based).
• If you need a true 3-month cadence, set it to repeat every 3 months and adjust the due date to the nearest Monday when the next instance is created.

Hi All,

I am writing with request to add one more option to repeating tasks.

There are daily, weekly, monthly, yearly - but there is no Quarterly option.

I tried with custom - “Every three months” - but that way it is not possible to say “on first thirsday”.

Do you think this is something meaningful?

Super valid Stilyan. Have you explored Rules in relation to specific Sections that could be dedicated to Quarterly Tasks? I know this might be creating a work around for the specific repetition your looking for but it might work. I didn’t work through the rule fully but attaching the pathing

This sounds interesting, but I don’t understand - in your idea should I reopen the same task that is completed, as Asana Rules don’t work on recurring tasks?

Yes - is absolutely the same. The workarounds don’t work unfortunately, as they have the same amount of manual work as I wound have if I set Monthly on the 2nd Monday and change manually the date of the repeating task (at least it shows it to me where exactly is )
