Set Default Values on a Project?

Hi! I am a solopreneur. I’m the only person in my account and any task I create should automatically be assigned to me. Is it possible to set default values at a project level, so that every time a task is added, I am automatically assigned the owner?

I’ve tried searching the forum and help articles for info on this but haven’t found anything. I hope it is possible - it is definitely a feature I’ve used in other platforms.

Nevermind! I see now how I can do this with Rules. Thanks for patience with a newbie!

Sorry I replied to the wrong post. :slight_smile:

it is a little annoying that I will have to set this as a rule on every board though.

@Lisa_Marshall - there’s a workaround.

  1. Create a project called “Global Rules Controller” and add the automation that all tasks added to that project should be assigned to you.
  2. Create a “Base Template”, which is a basic template with only the essentials that you’ll need every time you build a project (e.g. status field, certain sections, and most importantly, a rule that multi-homes every single task to a “Global Rules Controller” project)
  3. If you create every new project using your base template, all tasks will always be routed to the Global Rules Controller project, which will run your rule to auto-assign to you.

NOTE: If you do ever decide to get Enterprise, you can set up real global rules using what’s called “Bundles.”

Thank you! This is super helpful!

Have any workarounds for sharing templates outside your organization (that aren’t Templana or just a .csv export/import?)

@Lisa_Marshall - Templana is a great option – not sure what you are looking for if you are avoiding that for some reason. Is there something wrong with that approach (so that I know what you are actually looking for)?

What’s the intent? Share it with whom and how should they be able to access it?

I can’t justify $50 a month for a private section to share with my clients. And even if I did, I am not sure rules and other automations would transfer over.

@Lisa_Marshall - There are not any free private template sharing tools that I know of.
Like you, I hope Asana will support template sharing in the future.
