I would love this too. There was an announcement last year about new custom field types, including a ‘date’ field. Unfortunately, it looks like it was shelved:
Edit: This post is now locked. The API and Developer Relations team at Asana do not have any timeline for new custom fields. When new information is available, a separate announcement will be made.

What do you think about adding new field type “Date”? I’d like to have “Start Date” and “End Date” for tasks and currently I am using “Text” field for that which does not work well for 2 reasons:
