Save View Sorting Sections Independent of Primary List

I am trying use “Save View” as a way to spotlight sections because I get too easily distracted with too many sections/tabs.

When I want a saved view of a section at the bottom of a project with 20 sections, I still have to do quite a bit of scrolling to get to the section I want to focus on. Is there a way to have the saved views independent of the original (primary or principal) list? So if the saved view is from Section #20, I want to be able to put that at the top with tasks/subtasks expanded and Sections #1 through #19 collapsed.

Ideally, I would like to hide the other Sections and Tasks, but if all sections and tasks are required in a view, then an independent sort would be helpful.

Welcome, @Iris_Lozano,

First, don’t forget to click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button; that’s the quickest and most effective way to express your support for a request.

Until/if Asana offers this, you can currently collapse your Sections #1 through #19 and leave Section 20 expanded and save that as a tab view.

Start by making a copy of the current tab:

Then in the new tab (which you can rename “Section 20”), collapse all the other sections then click Save view at the top right.

If you were to use custom fields to help identify those Section 20 tasks, you’d have more flexibility to use the Filters and/or Groups options to achieve more of the view you want now even without an Asana update.

Thanks,

Larry

Adding to @lpb ‘s advice, you could also consider using a single select custom field instead of sections. This would allow filtering for the custom field values you’d want. And “hide empty groups” (three dot menu under group) allows to show only the tasks with the field values you’ve filtered for.

You can sort the custom field groupings in two ways, both the original list order, or the reverse.

Yes, this is what I have tried, but scrolling down 19 collapsed sections is still a distraction.

I will brainstorm turning my sections into fields and see how I can clean up my views.
