Rules-generated tasks not moving to section with rule

Hi there! First time poster, but been frustrated all day with this issue. I’ve read all the relevant posts and watched a dozen videos, and nothing is working.

We are working on a project template. There are two forms associated with the project template. Filling out one form should trigger the creation of tasks in one section of the project (review and research). Filling out the other form should trigger the creation of tasks in the other section of the project (promotion).

It doesn’t appear there’s any way to set a section for where rule-generated tasks from a form should be created. I did try adding an additional rule under the task creation rule to move the task to the correct section, but that doesn’t seem to do anything.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

TLDR: I have two forms. The answers to custom fields in the form generate tasks. Tasks from one form should be in Section A. Tasks from the other form should be in Section B. They’re all going into A presently.

Hi @Holly_Shulman – welcome to the forum!

Tasks from one form should be in Section A. Tasks from the other form should be in Section B.

This to me means that tasks created based on the forms responses should be created in a certain section. Create a rule when a task is created in this project by form > check if it’s been added by form A > if so, create tasks A & B, otherwise check if it’s been added by form B > if so, create tasks C & D.

Here is the step I think you might be missing…

In order for those tasks to go to the desired section you need to open the task details by:

  1. Clicking on the task.

  2. Clicking “View all fields”.

  3. And lastly, adding the task to the correct section.

Best of luck with getting this set up!

Hi! Thanks so much. I did go ahead and add the rule you suggested related to the form above. But this is part of a project template so it doesn’t allow me to choose a template a section for the rule/form-creates tasks unfortunately.

@Holly_Shulman,

Are those tasks being created inheriting any custom fields that are unique to the section they would go to? If so, you can create another rule “When a task is added to this project > Check if custom field is X > Move the task to Section A/B”.

Yes, I’ll try that! Thank you!
