RULEs don't apply to email generated tasks

When creating a new task via sending an email to x+project@mail.asana.com, the rules engine isn’t working.

for instance, I have rules to add collaborators and set a due date when adding a task to the project but these don’t apply.

I also have no filters in rules to try to handle task that come in by email which would be really nice to have.

my use case here is that I forward voicemail-to-email into the system into a project but that get’s stuck with just me assigned and no due date so can slip through the cracks if I’m not available. The existing rules on tickets would get other people notified of the task.

The lack of an ‘IMAP checker’ forces me to use this, or to shove it into a gmail box and use an external tool like n8n to process emails and make tickets which is the route I’m likely to go if I can’t figure this out in ‘native’ asana.

Hi @Daniel_Denson,

This is not a normal state of affairs; I just tested to confirm and rules do run for me from an emailed-in task, so something else is going on in your scenario. I don’t know what it would be; unless anyone else here has other input, I would contact Asana support: see How to contact our Support Team.

Here’s an existing request for that feature; you might want to upvote it:

I already submitted to support, I haven’t received any reponse.

It can take a few days at times.

It’s good to avoid replying to your support email thread until after they reply, otherwise you’ll return to the end of the queue.

Thanks,

Larry
