A team member accidentally deleted a project from our account. She received an email to restore. She immediately clicked on the link. Although the project is appearing back on our list, the tasks are not visibly populating. We can search under a team member’s name and the task appears on the find list but the list view is still empty.
Try these troubleshooting steps, then please create a support ticket, go to www.asana.com/support (make sure you are logged in to Asana) > click the chat icon at the bottom right > type “speak to an agent” > click “Yes” > click “Something Else” > click “Create a support ticket.”
Yes and thanks Larry. Already created a ticket. Miles also gave me steps to troubleshoot, which produced no resolution. We know the tasks are still in the account because when we do a search, they do come up. We were just hoping that the project would restore as it was created.
Normally, restoring a project does happen as you had expected and Support would be able to say why that didn’t happen.
If you can find the tasks in Advanced Search using whatever parameters help you narrow that down, then with one multi-select (of up to 50 tasks) you can easily make those tasks members of the project yourself using the multi-select toolbar that appears at the bottom.
Thanks for your quick replies, Larry. It helps to know someone is in the boat with me. I’m waiting to hear from Support.
Happily, the restored project kept the members and fields (custom and standard) in tack. It didn’t re-populate the sections, the tasks and the “view” list. I had to add the view list back manually to the top of the project pane.
This project is a vital to one of our Teams. Should we just rebuild? What’s the best process? There are hundreds of tasks in there.
My thought logic exactly. Cool! Thanks for your help, Larry!!! Will try this approach if Asana Support doesn’t get back to us sooner rather than later.
This unfortunately happened to me this evening as well! Hoping to hear back from support as I’ve got 1000s of tasks I would need to add back in. Fingers crossed!
@Clare_Specht Update: We resorted to building the project back manually using the steps Larry and I documented at the top of this string. It was a heavier lift than I had anticipated, and it took time away from our normal duties.
Asana Support responded but their suggested steps did not result in any positive change. I wanted to speak to an agent, but their second response noted that they do not have enough resources to “Speak to agents” any longer.
This happened to me. Hundreds of tasks and a lot automations all gone. I hope they can resolve the issue. I don’t know why they would allow projects to be deleted so easily if there is no easy way to recover them.
Redoing all automations (i had 50+), sections, and finding all the displaced tasks will take more then just a day to recover and fix.
Hi everyone, thanks for reporting this issue and sorry for the trouble! I just deleted a test project and I was able to recover it successfully, including all automations. The problems you reported could be related to different factors, one example is the size of the project you are trying to recover. Having said that, it’s better for us to investigate these issues case by case and help you recover your information asap.
If you are still having trouble recovering your project, please contact contact our support team as Richard and Larry pointed out. Unfortunately, we don’t have the tools in the Forum to check more details or recover the project.
Thanks again for sharing your feedback on this feature, I hope the issue is solved soon and sorry again for any inconvenience here. Let me know if you have any questions!
