The implementation of a 100 character limit for rule titles does not allow for an adequately descriptive title for rules.
Many of my rules have a descriptive titles so that I (or others) can accurately identify what a rule does, without having to go into the rule and look at its structure. On a project with many rules, this can be confusing to users that are not presented with a good descriptive title.
Previously there was no limit to rule character length, and whilst my old rules beyond this 100 character length still retain their original names, now attempting to modify the longer titles, requires me to cut the title to 100 characters to meet the new restriction.
The default naming of rules (inheriting the trigger) for example:
Takes up over 50% of the allocation itself.
Given rule structures can be pretty extensive with multiple ‘check if’, and/or, ‘and’ criteria, and different ‘do this’ operations, how is the 100 character limit helping users understand rules without viewing the structure?
Can someone share rules with complex structures and how they’re naming them to keep track of them?
I had mentioned in a previous post that having a rule description box may be a way for this to sit outside of the titles, if title character length is an issue. Since there is no current description field for a rule, this limit seems quite regressive to me.
