Reduce browser lag on Timeline view?

I’ve noticed that if a Timeline view has a large number of tasks and dependencies on it, it starts getting painfully laggy, making it quite the chore to try to drag items around and organize them into a decent looking timeline.

I’m using Chrome on Win11, are there any settings (in Chrome, or Asana) I can use to reduce this lag?

Hi @Matt5, sorry for the trouble. Our developers have been working on long-term improvements to timeline performance, but resolving this issue will require more time, and there’s no ETA available yet.

One additional factor that usually contributes to longer loading times in the timeline is the number of sections in the project, as the timeline loads each section individually. If possible, consolidating your project sections could help improve the performance.

I’ll leave this topic open for now in case the Community has other tips to share

Thank you for that. I did discover a while back that having more than one section did cause issues so I have set this project up to have a bare minimum (currently, 4 sections, although only one section has more than a few things in it at any given time).

I did discover a workaround, if you install the Asana desktop app, it seems to have far less lag on Timeline mode than a web browser.

A nasty side effect however is that now every time I open my browser I get a redirect thing telling me to open the Asana Desktop App. I have specific projects bookmarked in my browser to open up and I see no need for them to put that redirect notice up every time just because I have the app installed, it’s exceptionally annoying.
