Recurring Tasks Not Working: new task not being created upon completion

I have several recurring tasks that are set to various intervals, and it doesn’t appear that a new task is being created upon completion. I noticed this as of yesterday. Is anyone else having that issue?

As of today, my recurring task was working.
Have you tried creating a temporary project and testing it within that?

Yes, I tried that and it didn’t make a difference

Hello,

I have now reproduced the issue with a completely new test task.

I created a new task today, September 14, set the due date to September 14, and configured it to repeat weekly on Mondays. I then marked the task as completed.

According to Asana’s documented behavior, completing a recurring task should automatically create the next occurrence. In this case, the next task due on September 21 was not created.

This confirms that the issue is not limited to our existing recurring tasks or old task configurations. It can be reproduced with a newly created task.

Everything was working correctly on Friday, September 11. We have confirmed internally that no integrations, settings, permissions, or workflows were changed.

I am a regular employee, not an organization administrator, so I cannot access organization-level logs or administrative settings.

Could you please escalate this to your technical/engineering team and check the backend logs for the recurring-task creation event? It appears that completing a recurring task is not triggering the creation of its next occurrence.

Hi @Sergey_M1 and welcome to the forum,

FYI I’ve merged your post with another report of this same issue.

@Forum-team two separate reports of this issue - seems likely to be a regression here…

FWIW, I just had a bunch of recurring tasks flood in, but then it still doesn’t seem to be functioning correctly.

Hi everyone,

I apologize for the inconvenience! :folded_hands:

I’ve submitted a report for further investigation. I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue on my end, and it appears to affect some users but not all.

I’ll share an update here as soon as I receive one. Thank you for your patience! :folded_hands:t2:

I’m still experiencing the issue as of September 17, 2026. I found that this has now been classified in the Asana Community under Critical Bugs → In Progress: “Recurring Tasks Not Working: new task not being created upon completion.” The issue continues to reproduce in my workspace, including in Incognito mode. Could you please confirm whether my case is associated with the ongoing engineering investigation?

I am experiencing th same issue since 7+ days ago recurring tasks nor reproducing affecting 20+ projects, and my team and the email I get from asana is "Hi Natalia,
Thank you for your patience while we looked into this. I completely understand your frustration with the delay, especially given how this is affecting your agency’s daily work.

I wanted to share an update: our Engineering team has reviewed this and, while it has been logged as something we would like to improve, it is not currently scheduled for immediate development. Because of this, we unfortunately do not have an ETA or estimated resolution timeline to share at this stage.

Rest assured that this issue has been logged with our product team, and we are looking to have it resolved as soon as possible. For now I will keep this case on hold and I’ll get back to you once there is an update."

So your resolution is continue paying for a tool where recurring tasks do not work until whenever in xxx months you decide to fix this???

Is that for real your answer? Can you escalate this please? I can’t believe you are telling me I have to continue paying for a tool and not have my recurring tasks working at all, you have more than 1 affected user, you are pushing AI updates and your core feature RECURRING tasks , does not work properly? Why on earth am I getting this answer like if i was a robot.

Please I need to speak to higher management and get this resolved

Welcome, @Natalia_Maganda, and sorry.

@Irish_Makimura and @Forum-team, the Support reply in Natalia’s post indicates that they don’t see this as critical at all and in fact are not actively working on it, which is not aligned with expectations here; can you escalate?

Thanks,

Larry
