Recurring tasks in project templates

Our projects often contain recurring tasks.

Being able to set these up in project templates would make setting up new projects less work and less prone to error.

Hey folks!

We use Asana for consulting projects. One of the deliverables is an EOM submission for hours. Is there a way to have the template assign dates based on the last day of the month? For example, if a project is 12 months long and starts on Sep 22nd (today) then I would need tasks for Sep 30th, Oct 31st, Nov 30th, Dec 31st, Jan 31st, Feb 28th, etc etc.

Right now we are getting it close by doing project start date +30 days, +60 days, etc. I still have to manually adjust and would love to have this be one less manual item.

Thanks for the help, in advanced!

I am trying to add a recurring task to one of our organizational project templates. The task is a monthly reminder to complete a project status update by the 5th of the month.

When I try to add this to the template, my only option is a Relative Due Date.

Any suggestions?

Hi @Traci_Gangl , and welcome to the Community! We’re glad to have you here.

In Asana, templates only support relative due dates, not fixed calendar dates. That’s why when you try to set a task like a monthly status update, your only option in the template is a relative date (for example, “due 5 days after project start”). This ensures the task adjusts automatically whenever the template is used for a new project.

Once you create a project from the template, you can then edit the task to a fixed date (like the 5th of the month) if needed. This approach keeps the template flexible while still allowing precise scheduling in the actual project.
