read-only links with filter applied

I’d like to be to filter a board using a custom field and then create a view that could be shared publicly. When I use the “create a link” feature that just shows every item on the board and also limits the fields that are publicly viewable. Is there any way to do this? I was thinking a possible workaround could be to move those tasks to another board when the status of them is transitioned and then make that probably public, but wondering if there’s another option. Any thoughts?

Hi @anon75597966, welcome to the Asana Community Forum

Thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback!

While this feature isn’t available at this time, hopefully it’s something our Product team can implement in the future.

I’ll keep you posted and let you know if we have any updates

I’ll add my voice to this request.

Filters are crucial to providing a read-only link, as these viewers are outsiders to Asana and require a bit of pruning in terms of visibility for the sake of security and usability.

Real-world use case:

We have an asana project that collects Feature Requests, Bug Reports, and Training Requests. We want to provide a read-only link to the Bug Reports only. Secondly, we have thousands of completed tasks sitting in the project and we don’t want to clutter up the view of our stakeholders with a giant list of completed items.

What we need is:

  1. Ability to filter by any custom field
  2. Ability to combine different completion statuses, example: All incomplete + completed within the last week.

I agree with everything that’s been said about the necessity of being able to customize what information is being shared and would like to add the ability to remove the option to “join” the project (big purple button). If we’re trying to share a “read-only” view, I only want them to be able to read the information (of my choosing, as stated above).

We had someone click the link to view where their task stood, joined the project, and I was then notified that we needed to pay for an additional seat.

From my perspective, the ability to set up which sections are shown in the read-only view is essential for making them usable. On top that, the recipient of the read-only link should also be able to filter and sort the information - of course within the scope of what was set to be included within that read-only link.

I support any upgrades to the Read-only project views. These features are key to sharing project work status with other teams at the company, which are not Asana users, but are key stakeholders in submitting work to our projects.

Is this still an issue? I felt sure when I set up Asana a few months ago that filters were working on the different views I had set up, as I was advised to do so by our account exec.

But today I’ve looked at the public links again and they’re showing everything rather than the filters I’ve applied. Surely if a public link is set up for a view then it should show only the stuff on that view?

unfortunatelly this is still the case, therefore the functionality is not really usable.
