Question on Reporting and Dashboards

I’m curious to poll what everyone is using as their dashboard and reporting management with Asana? I see there are a few integrations with Power BI, but was wondering if that is the best tool right now to use alongside of Asana. It’s becoming clear to me that Asana is missing some key features in its reporting and dashboarding to be my all-in-one tool, so I’d like to find out how you all are handling reporting and dashboarding with your Asana instances, and what has worked best for you.

Hi @Peter_Thomas6 , you may want to try Screenful which I think is very impressive!

Looked briefly at screenfuls website. are you able to use an asana guest account to limit the data sources that it counts against your plan?

@Jason_Fujinaka That’s a good question. I’m not the account admin, so I am unsure of how guest accounts work in Asana. That could definitely be an option if it doesn’t count against our seat count. That is only part of the issue, however. I still think Asana’s dashboarding is a bit limited. I think an external tool will help refine what I can output from Asana.

Right now, the big things I’m finding is something Richard mentioned before, which is that you cannot query off of custom text fields (i.e. no way to say show me all tasks when custom field a says “X”), and the other thing is that exporting in .CSV or to Sheets exports a report with every single custom field you’ve made in that project, and there’s no way to control that.

I would like to output a report where I do the customizations one time on the back end and have the report export the same way each time, without having to then open it in Sheets/Excel and manipulating it monthly, for example.

@Jason_Fujinaka , @Peter_Thomas6 , you can set the data sources of Screenful to exactly what you want. And you can also share dashboards and reporting charts with users that don’t have an Asana account in your space. Once you set it up, you can also schedule Screenful to email anyone on a set frequency, eg weekly, monthly etc.

The free trial will let you preview what I’m describing.

Does anyone know if screenful allow you to have data that stays fresh or does it require manual intervention to update? I posed the question to them and havent heard back yet.

I am looking for a solution better than what I am doing now with sync to sheets then looker studio from there. the sync is pretty painful with the formatting issues and fields with the same names.

Hi @Jason_Fujinaka , I’m fairly certain your data syncs automatically, live.

The creators @Vova_Kenih or @SamiLinnanvuo should get back to you soon.

@Jason_Fujinaka sorry to hear you didn’t receive a reply. In the future, I suggest you email support@screenful.com - we reply to all of the requests we receive!

Screenful certainly refreshes data automatically. The data is synched once per hour, and you can trigger sync manually at any time.

You can find answers to questions like that on our FAQ at https://screenful.com/guide/asana#faq

@Richard_Sather thanks for the mention and help!!

I’ve been using Asana for a while and found its reporting and dashboarding features lacking. Integrating Asana with Power BI has been a game-changer for me. Power BI offers robust data visualization and advanced reporting that complement Asana perfectly. It seamlessly pulls data from Asana, allowing me to create comprehensive dashboards and reports. I’ve tried other tools, but Power BI has been the most efficient and user-friendly. If you’re looking for better reporting and dashboarding, I highly recommend giving Power BI a try. It should be noted that integration with PowerBI is only available for legacy Business and Enterprise tiers (not Starter or Advanced tiers).
