Project template can't use Date field?

That’s annoying, looks like if a project template includes a date field, you can’t write values in it… Expected or bug?

I reproduced this. Looks like a bug to me.

Hi @Bastien_Siebman and @Phil_Seeman, thanks for reporting this issue. It looks like this has already been escalated to our Developers and they are working on a fix. I’m moving this topic to our Critical Bugs section where I’ll provide updates as they become available!

Update: still broken

Hi @Bastien_Siebman, this escalation is still open with our Developers, but I’m keeping an eye on it for updates. I’ll make sure to keep you posted

Hi @Bastien_Siebman, sorry for the delay! I got an update from our developers on this, and while I initially thought it was related to an issue with global custom fields they were fixing, they confirmed that this is actually expected, dates are immutable fields in templates. There are no immediate plans to change this, but they’ve noted your feedback for future improvements.

Thanks. The limit between “bug” and “missing feature” is thin

Sorry but have to chime in here - this is really “not good”. This inconsistency makes no sense that most (I guess all other?) custom field types are editable in a template but not this one particular type. There’s no good reason I can discern for this inconsistency to exist.

I can see this is a missing feature, but it’s my old pet peeve: It’s not sustainable to build “traps” into your product like this.

Templates only allow relative dates for due date, so that might be why this is a missing feature: Relative is not appropriate for user-created date fields, and no code yet for standard date dialogs in templates?

@Bastien_Siebman, another addition here to your “Show me your Buts.”

Hi team, thanks for sharing your thoughts! I’ve passed your comments along to our Developers, and I’ll update you if they have any additional insights to share about this behavior. If you wish, I can move this thread to our Product Feedback category in the meantime.
