Project restore/version history

I’d love to see Asana introduce the ability to restore a project to a previous state. If tasks are accidentally moved, edited, deleted, or reorganised, there’s currently no easy way to revert everything back. In my particular case, I forgot to adjust my dependency settings before moving some tasks, and it took me a while to get them all back in order

A restore/version history feature - similar to what SharePoint offers, would be extremely valuable for teams managing large projects and would help prevent accidental bulk changes from causing major disruption.

Even limited restore points or snapshots would be a huge improvement.

Does anyone have any tips on dealing with accidental project changes, where you are too late to click ‘undo’?

Hi @Rebecca_Hassett

Opening the task Activity section can help a lot since it shows exactly what changed. I usually retrace updates to assignees, due dates, sections, and dependencies from there.

• If tasks were deleted
You can sometimes restore them from Deleted Items:

• Fixing dependencies faster
Timeline view is super helpful for spotting broken or shifted dependencies visually and dragging them back into place.

A few prevention ideas that have helped me too:

  • Duplicate the project or export to CSV before major bulk changes
  • Test dependency or workflow changes in a sandbox copy first
  • Limit editing permissions where possible
  • Lock important custom fields to avoid accidental edits
