It would be helpful for me if there was a section on a task where a user can input private notes. For me, this would be used during meetings to remind myself where the task is based on my progress and others. I do not necessarily want it to be a comment and notify everyone but would like to have a separate area for my personal notes on a task.
Yes, and then be able to privately share notes with specific people that other task members can’t see.
Agreed! Would love a private notes textbox - I’ve always just typed out some notes in the comment and not hit Send - however that doesn’t work well when you accidentally click Send, or if you need to comment publicly later.
In terms of sharing notes, I would like to see a “Private to Me” vs a “Shared within My Organization” - not individual users, but since most of our projects have external clients connected, having a internal vs external space in the same project would be very helpful!
Totally agree. A note-to-self feature would prevent me from having to create docs and memos elsewhere.
Yes! I am a pretty new user and it is such a shock to me that this doesn’t exist in this awesome platform. What I have been doing is creating a task and keeping it private. But it makes me nervous that it is not in a separate place with a separate layout so my brain always keeps them separate. Please add this feature!
thank you for a wonderful product.
I am looking for that exact feature so that I don’t have to keep private notes on my projects elsewhere.
Private notes are one of the few features (or lack there of) giving our company a hard time adopting Asana across the board. We’d like to manage all of our work out of Asana, and the ability to share requirements across teams and with clients is a big win. But we need to allow internal discussion of stories without clients seeing all the details. And creating another task to track the same issue undercuts the entire reason we are on Asana to begin with, so that is just not an acceptable solution for an otherwise excellent platform.
I agree, I manage projects for all departments across our organization and it would be incredibly helpful to have a private notes section where I can keep personal updates from my meetings with department leaders. Sometimes I just need to write out reminders for myself to keep track of or items to follow up on, but it’s not essential for the other members of the project to know this information.
With the new Custom fields that one can add to My Tasks, you can add a private text Custom field that will only be visible to you, and this acts as a private note per task.
I could seem to find this. Is this only available to the one who created the actual task? Someone created the task for me and I wanted to put my own notes into it. Please help, thanks!
@Erik_Ilacad Welcome to the community!
No, you should be able to add it to a task that is assigned to you. But to use this you need to create the custom field on “My Tasks” and I think this is only availible on Premium and up?
If later I’ll assign the task to another person the custom fild disappear ?
@Enric_Moreno I tested, and it does not disappear. It just becomes un-editable.
Belo you can see the following:
On the left: This person created the task and added the private note then reassigned to the person on the right.
The person on the right cannot see the Custom field and thus not see the note.
I then reassign to the person on the left and they could edit the note again.
I think there should be a section of a project where people inside can create and manage a space for notes. It can be edited and modified by anyone who has permission (assigned) by the creator of the note. It would be really appreciated, if Asana did it i think that its value should be huge.
