Power BI - Asana refresh failure

Power BI desktop is not refreshing Asana data. This failure started on Jan 17, 2024, and this is causing problems when executives want to know current project status.

When we start Asana data refresh in Power BI desktop, it starts refreshing, and never ends, and many times a message of credentials appear.

We have Asana Business plan, and we have been using Power BI integrated with Asana for 1 year.

Please we need a urgent solution for this as this is causing business impacts.

I am having the same issue. I submitted a support ticket. Hopefully this is resolved quickly!

I am also having the same issue.

This is the error I got when my dataset attempted to refresh:

"Failure details: The last refresh attempt failed because of an internal service error. This is usually a transient issue. If you try again later and still see this message, contact support.

Same here:

Additionally when trying to modify the data source credentials it looks like the issue is clearly on the asana api integration side.

I am also experiencing the same issue across multiple Power BI desktop dashboards linked to Asana:

Also, Iā€™m not sure how theyā€™re able to say the API has no downtime while this issue persistsā€¦

Yes, this is something that made me believe I was doing something wrong.

Hi everyone, thank you for reporting this and sorry for the trouble. Weā€™ve received some similar reports from other users, and the case has already been escalated to our Developers. I hope this can be fixed soon. Once I have any updates Iā€™ll let you know

Hello, Iā€™m being cautiously optimistic here but it looks like things are refreshing from Asana again - had a few taking a bit longer than normal so far, but it looks promising, whatever it was.

But by promising Iā€™m somewhere between an 25%-50% success rate with refreshing data, whereas yesterday it was 0%.

Chiming in that my issue has resolved. I was instantly able to log back in and re-establish my connection in both the downloaded PBIX and on the PowerBI app.

I also felt the frustration from this. Feels like the status page needs to be based on actual tests of the API instead of issue reports. Issue reports will only show up if and when people realize there is an issue and then take the steps to report it, the API could be down for hours before an issue gets reported. In checking today, the status page still shows green for yesterday despite our reported errors.

Would love to see Asana report out issues from their own testing rather than relying on the community to bring the problems to them.

Still the same status. Not working for me.

Itā€™s still hovering on the 25%-50% refresh success rate here. Not reliable enough to turn on automatic refreshes again.

But itā€™s getting more frustrating - Havenā€™t been able to refresh in > an hour, and now getting this error.

Hi,

Sharing some additional information.

IĀ“ve been using Power BI desktop to refresh data just for the sake to try to understand what is going on.

Strangely enough till Saturday I couldnĀ“t get data refreshed, but on Sunday it worked well, and today (Monday) it got back to the same problem.

Seems there is something specific to Sunday that is not ā€œblockingā€ data to be refreshedā€¦

Same experience here - It was fine Saturday night (~8pm in California) and Monday morning no refresh failure email until now.

It looks like the last successful refresh was at 730 am PST today, and the 8am refreshes (I have a lot of different portfolios refreshing) are still trying to refresh some 2 hours later.

Hi, I was wondering if you have any news about this issue. Not sure if you read the latest information on data flowing on Sunday but not todayā€¦

New error message.
