Overview of Nested Portfolios and their Projects

Hi everyone,
I’m new to Asana, and am starting to build a setup for my team.

I am currently looking for a way to view all portfolios, nested portfolios and their projects in a single overview. Currently, it seems I have to click into each portfolio to check status.

Is there a way to do what I’m looking for? Ideally a way to “open” up the nested portfolios and their projects in a list view, similarly to how you can open up Subtasks for a given Task.

I hope I’m making sense.

Welcome, @Nikolaj_Kaae_Kirk,

The specific feature you mention–expand/collapse nested portfolios within a portfolio’s list view–isn’t in Asana. You can search in Product Feedback and if you find that topic there, vote for it using the purple Vote button at the top of the thread. If you don’t find the request, please add one (and vote for it) in Product Feedback.

What’s the specific thing(s) you want to see about the nested portfolio? If it’s the current portfolio status, you could use Reporting in the left sidebar to great a dashboard and add a donut chart looking at the health of portfolios:

After saving the chart, clicking on any segment will show you a detailed list:

Thanks,

Larry

Thanks a lot for your reply Larry!

To be more precise: my main goal was to have an overview of all the portfolios, nested portfolios and projects in order to navigate a little better, but at the same time be able to inform myself of the status of portfolios/projects while I look around.

Does that make sense? So instead of having to open up each individual portfolio one at a time, I can glance over it and get an overview - while also easily navigating.

Thanks, @Nikolaj_Kaae_Kirk

The nested portfolios feature was added before new features now present that let you create multiple tabs (view) in a single portfolio, each having more flexible grouping, sorting, and filtering.

So you might find it more convenient to put all your projects in one portfolio (instead of several and instead of nesting) and include a single select custom field representing the different groupings of these projects that are meaningful to you. Grouping by that custom field will let you expand/collapse as you’re looking for. Multiple filtered tabs might make that even easier by toggling to different views. Those are some things to try, I’d think.
