I just duplicated an existing project, including views. However now there are no filter/sorting options visible. Tested on several browsers. Is this a known bug or am I missing something?

Those will all appear the second you start adding a new task (even if it’s empty).
I don’t really understand the benefit of Asana hiding these controls in the empty state; you’re not the first person to be tripped up by this.
