My tasks "Groups" sorting groupss things in a weird way

I’ve read the new functionality deployment here: Introducing flexible ways to organize your tasks in list and board views

Multi-sorting My Tasks works well: I can see at the same time tasks that are unfinished AND sort them by due date. But I also want to sort them by project, so I naturally select “Group: by project” and the grouping is weird. It creates sections that seem to group tow things: one project AND one team, and then sub-sections for each (recently assigned and done), but:

  • the projects that are listed are not assigned to the teams that are grouped with them
  • a lot of tasks are under a section called “no project”, but they ARE assigned to projects

can someone explain how the “group by: project” exactly work? thanks!

Welcome, @francesco_benetti,

Can you include a screenshot so we can be sure we understand your question?

Is it possible those are subtasks (which are actually not assigned to a project by default, though their parent tasks may be)?

Thanks,

Larry

thank you for your answer. Yes the “no project” ones do seem like subtasks, but in the column “project” they still seem to be assigned to one… still it’s weird to have subtasks listed separately, is there a workaround?

this is what I mean by “it groups projects by one project AND one team” which I don’t understand: in this example, “team onboarding checklist” and “avaaz trial team” are a project, and a team, but they are not assigned to each other. That is a privat project of which I’m the only member.

thanks!

Sorry, @francesco_benetti,

It’s hard for me to follow. Perhaps someone else can do a better job to help you.

A quick point: Asana made a change to how it populates the Projects column in My Tasks and seeing a project there doesn’t mean that a subtask for sure is in really explicitly a member of the project; you have to open the task detail pane and look there.

Thanks,

Larry
