The Asana timesheets and budgeting add-on has been great, and our architecture firm is prepared to switch over totally from Harvest except for one thing: visibility on individual timesheets is limited to one person per team member only.
This is a critical blocker for us, as a PM must review a project team’s timesheets before they go to the admin team for approval and billing; executives also want access to timesheet information for general oversight, and the current workaround of the designated reviewers exporting the .csv and circulating them as needed eats up time and is just not working for us. In Harvest, this information is available to any users at the admin level, but currently Asana hides this information even from super admins.
Although it would be great to have multiple users able to edit a timesheet, even customized permissions to give read-only visibility to super admins or selected users would help us fully make the switch. Are there any plans to update this add-on to allow wider timesheet visibility?
Yes we need this too! I would think a Super Admin should have access to everything but we don’t, so our workaround right now is to manually change/replace the appover in the admin portal, but this isn’t efficient at all.
This would be especially helpful when a timesheet approver is sick or goes on vacation for coverage.
I agree with Quinn, it gets tricky if its only one person thats approving/ reviewing timesheets. What if they are on vacation, sick or any other reason.
This really needs to be fixed!
We also need it urgently. This is a very crucial feature. The work-arround by changing each time in the admin-settings the reviewer is very complicated. Please provide us with a time-line for the development.
I completely agree this is a major limitation. In many organizations, project managers, finance teams, and executives all need visibility into timesheets without relying on manual exports. A read-only permission for admins or the ability to assign multiple reviewers would make the approval process much more efficient. I haven’t seen any official announcement that this is on the roadmap yet, so I’d recommend adding your support to the existing feature requests and sharing your workflow with the Asana team—they do take customer feedback into account when prioritizing updates.
Currently, Asana’s native Timesheets feature enforces a strict 1:1 relationship between a time submitter and their designated “Time Reviewer.” This privacy wall is so absolute that not even Super Admins can view, audit, or action a timesheet if they are not the assigned reviewer. If an organisation needs multiple sets of eyes on a timesheet, or requires a backup approver, the system completely blocks it.
Without admin visibility or multi-approver support, Asana’s time-tracking creates severe bottlenecks for matrix organisations and standard payroll processing. Adding this flexibility would eliminate the need to rely on complex manual workarounds or third-party time-tracking integrations.
Just sharing the current (imperfect) workaround we are using in our office while we wait for this feature to be released; your mileage may vary depending on the scale of your org! We have stepped up our use of portfolios, specifically with the workload capacity tab. We have found that if you set the view to show “actual time” and set the time period to “weeks” you are able to see the hours your team has spent on each project in the portfolio, and a detailed list of their time entries per project by clicking the total, although you cannot edit or view the timesheet proper. This is really only working for us because we have a relatively small team and a master portfolio of all active projects; I imagine it would be difficult to scale this for larger teams or those who utilize portfolios to aggregate different teams working on one project. Each project manager has their own portfolio with a similar view so that they can reach out directly to a team member if there is an issue with the hours they logged. Again, this access is all read-only and doesn’t solve the single-reviewer issue, but we have found that at the executive level the workload tab combined with dashboards for utilization and labor cost is a suitable compromise that gives them lower-lift “at-a-glance” visibility than the previous workaround of exporting all time entries into a .csv or manually changing reviewers each time they wanted to see somebody’s hours. We still definitely need the ability to assign more than one reviewer to solve the single-point-of-failure issue though; looking forward to hearing when we can expect that update to be released.

That said, a few requests in this thread go beyond what this update covers, particularly around read-only access for super admins and broader executive visibility outside the approval flow. If those are blockers for your team, please create a separate product feedback topic describing your specific use case. The more detail you can share about what’s missing and how it affects your workflow, the easier it is for us to bring that context to our product team. Every request gets read, and this thread is a good example of that.
