Asana's Timesheets and Budgets Add-On: Now Available for All Customers + Free Trial! 📊 ⏰

Hey Community,

Big news for anyone interested in tracking time and managing project costs in Asana: the Timesheets and Budgets add-on is now available for any customer to sign up on their own. And if you want to try before you buy, there’s a free 14-day trial so you can explore everything risk-free.

The add-on is available for Starter, Advanced, Enterprise, and Enterprise+ plans.

What’s included:

The add-on brings together everything you need to track time and manage project costs:

  • Timesheets to track time across projects and workstreams, with submit and approval workflows
  • Project budgets to plan and monitor costs and stay on top of project health
  • Custom user rates that feed automatically into project budgets
  • Time and cost reporting to compare estimates to actuals
  • Enhanced mobile time tracking with billable/non-billable support and descriptions
  • Resource management enhancements to see costs in capacity plans and workload
  • Admin settings to easily manage time trackers and time approvers

And since our first launch in November, we’ve added enhancements to the add-on, including:

  • Future time logging and approvals to log, submit, and approve time for future dates, perfect for teams that need to plan ahead for known schedules or upcoming time off
  • Task-level time enforcement so admins can require time to be logged against specific tasks rather than as general project time, giving you much more accurate data on where effort is actually going
  • Auto-populated timesheets that pre-fill with tasks assigned to you, so you spend less time hunting for what you worked on
  • Time entry categories to tag time entries with custom categories set by your admin, so you can analyze time by type of work, not just by project or billable status
  • API support for timesheet validation and approval so enterprises can integrate Asana timesheets into existing compliance or validation systems

I like the add-on and purchased it. That said, I’m still currently using Everhour until this one can handle:

  • Recurring budgets based on date logic without needing to create new projects
  • Some sort of “customer” object. Currently using projects for this but it’s not ideal. Custom task types may be able to handle this in the future if related custom fields eventually support bidirectional linking, conditional filtering, and enable rollup fields
  • Ability to log non-labor related costs against budget
  • Ability to set and measure both billables and actual cost; e.g., each person would need both a billable rate and a cost rate

I am really looking forward to doing a trial of this add-on. I spoke with our Asana account manager yesterday – love the fact that we can purchase as many add-on seats that we need rather then buy seats in bulk.

Based on the videos I have seen it appears very comprehensive , which is great. Although, I am not sure if it’s ready for us to replace Harvest yet. I guess we’ll find out soon.
