Multihome Task but not Subtasks to a Different Project

I have a project with several tasks and each task has a long list of subtasks. I want to copy the tasks over to a different project but I don’t need the subtasks to copy over. Is it possible to just have the Tasks multihome but keep the subtasks only in the original project? Thanks

Welcome, @Reya_Martin,

Generally, in the case you’re describing, you’ll be multi-homing the parent task only, so that means that only that task will appear as a top-level task (appearing in List view, Board view, Calendar view, etc. as such).

If you go to the multi-homed project, you’ll see the same top-level task there. But if you look at the task in the task detail pane, in either of the two projects it’s multi-homed to, you’ll see it is accompanied by all its subtasks, and that’s unavoidable; the subtasks are part of the task.

But those subtasks are not themselves multi-homed to either project (which is why they don’t also appear as top-level tasks in addition to being subtasks), unless you explicitly choose to do that, which you can do by navigating to the subtask in the task detail pane and using the Tab+P shortcut or chosing Add to project from the (sub)task actions menu.

Hope that explained why it wasn’t a simple answer to your question!

Thanks,

Larry

Just to be sure, let me add a bit more information.

  • When you multi-home a task and subtasks, the display will look like this.

  • Subtasks do not belong to any project.

  • However, parent task information and the project to which the parent task belongs will always be displayed.

Thank you. That confirms what we’re seeing. Unfortunately, we’ll have to find a workaround as we only want to see the parent tasks.
