Moving tasks between projects without including subtasks

Hello! So I have to project boards, one where all the client information fields get filled out, and another that just holds a list of all those fields for the client. I would like a rule to move them from board A to board B but I don’t want the subtasks to be included. At first I just deleted and recreated the task but that takes away all the fields. Wondering if there’s an easy solution to this? Thank you!

Hi,
If the main task moves, but not its subtasks, where the subtasks are supposed to go?

Haha. Well I was going to have it so when I check off the subtasks, they get removed, but when I check off the main task, it gets moved to another board. But I see that rules can either apply to tasks or tasks AND subtasks, not just subtasks. So I’m having trouble with that part.

Hi @A.J_Ort
What is it you are trying to achieve from moving the task only to project B? If you could explain the use case, we could provide some options.

In general, subtasks are associated with tasks. But with better understanding of the use case maybe there could be a different approach.

So project A is basically the working board where we fill out all these fields for each new client. Project B is the list of filled out list of all the clients. It’s not necessarily an issue having the subtasks there but it just doesn’t look as good and I’d like for them to not be there if it’s possible.

And in this case, what do the subtasks include?

Project A is the intake of client details gathered and project B is client details complete?

Correct. So the fields in project A (say “name”, “Contract length”, “Payment info”) would be the same as in project B. The subtasks in project A are to fill out all those fields whereas in project B it’s just the list so we can go back and look

If you workflow for subtasks to only complete custom fields of Project A, then perhaps consider changing the workflow and make it one that does not include subtasks.

When a new client is added to Project A - Assign it to Person 1
When Person 1 completes the details and marks it complete
Move the task to Project B, mark it incomplete and remove Person 1 from it

Maybe that could help - this is on the assumption that only one person is responsible to populate the fields.

Hope this helps a bit.

I guess I could add the subtasks in the details section potentially. Thanks for the help.
