Move Teams back under 'Work' mode in the new sidebar

Moving Teams under People feels unintuitive and has disrupted our workflow.

We don’t use Teams as a way to browse people—we use Teams to organise our work. Each Team represents a department and contains the projects we actively work on every day. Previously, Teams was the primary place we navigated to find projects. Now, having to go through People to access workspaces and projects doesn’t make sense conceptually.

It feels like Teams has been categorised by who belongs to them rather than what they’re used for. In practice, Teams are a core part of how we organise and access work, not people.

I’d encourage reconsidering this change, or at least giving users the option to keep Teams under Work or customise the navigation to match how their organisation uses Asana.

I also think that the extra navigation bar that was added to the left side of the original navigation bar, takes up too much space and is unnecessary. There should be a way to personally choose to disable that feature.

agreed, me too!

For more information on Teamless Projects, please see this link.

I’ve long felt that having a project belong to a specific team doesn’t fit the role of a project within a complex organization. Therefore, I support the teamless project concept.

However, for other reasons, I believe a mechanism is necessary to manage the relationship between projects and the organization.

Agreed! This is how my team uses Teams and the new navigation is rough. Plus to move to Portfolio and use the Teamless feature that Asana is pushing is a different payment tier.

Hi @Naste_Lekoski , I hope you don’t mind, I’ve taken the liberty to rename your post title so it’s clear for others to vote on and gain more votes.

Thanks mate, that’s useful!

Even just the option to add starred Teams to the main page would be helpful. We have a Team for onboarding/offboarding new clients, and now every time I need to make multiple updates, it adds a few more clicks. We have so many projects that it is not efficient for me to star all of these ones that I need to access quickly.

Hi @Kayla_Arons , I feel you - you may want to vote for this also:

Until if/when Asana decide to implement this change, to help you solve you issue, if you have Advanced or Enterprise, you could create a Portfolio to add all your Onboarding projects into that so that it would be accessible from your Work mode by starring just that. Simply hover over that starred Portfolio to see all Onboarding projects within it, similar to your Team flyout menu.

Assuming your onboarding projects are created from a Project Template, you could go into the project template editor settings (step 3 on the left) and set this portfolio for all new projects to be added to it automatically.

Hope that helps for now.

Thanks Richard, I just voted for it. Unfortunately we only have basic, so I am not able to use the Portfolio feature

Ah, @Kayla_Arons , that’s an issue with many of our customers who are on the Starter plan without Portfolios - we’re seeing that they need to switch a lot between Work and People modes.
(just fyi, we are Asana Partners, we don’t work for Asana)

We manage 100+ client projects across multiple teams at a marketing agency. The previous sidebar let us quickly browse projects by Team, making it easy to switch between clients. The new navigation requires searching or filtering, which adds extra clicks and makes it harder to discover projects. We’d love the option to restore the Team hierarchy or choose between the classic and new navigation.

Yes, I agree

Thanks!

The team’s framework was functionally inadequate for handling complex organizational project management.

That said, I also believe the portfolio approach has its own weaknesses.

We need a better alternative system.

@HBenik , I found this similar post:

Would you agree to merge yours into it and consolidate the votes?

Sure, how do I do that?

Hey @HBenik, I just did it
(only forum leaders and Asana members can do that)

Adding to the list - this has totally disrupted my business. MOVE TEAMS BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS!
