Move task from new to today if due date is set to today

Where is the other thread on this issue?

I came here specifically looking for this topic for the same reason. I changed a task due to Today and fully expected it to appear in My Tasks under Today. I can’t change the bucket from the Home screen, and instead I had to search both my Upcoming and Later bucket to find the task to reassign it today.

It could automatically go to Today AND keep the blue dot visual indicator that it hasn’t been processed yet.

There is so much to like about Asana but certain things are mind-boggling perplexing. Take the case of new tasks with a Due Date of today. If I go to My Tasks, instead of creating a Today section automatically, those today tasks are hidden in the Recently Assigned section! Why not just surface them as we would hope: in a Today section. Things like this make me want to go back to Todoist or Microsoft Todo. Sure they’re not as robust as Asana for a workgroup but satisfying expectations is the easiest way to get people to love a product.

That original post is almost 2 years old. That doesn’t bode well for Asana and the responsiveness of it’s product team, especially when it’s such a beautifully explained reason for why the feature request should be there.

Hi Natalie, I agree with Fuzen, the original topic is almost 2 years old and still no action. we are using the free version with plans to move to business if it works for us and this is one stumbling block.

This is confusing behavior for me too. If I add a new task directly to the “Today” section of “My Tasks”, then it’s clear that this is a task that I’ve created and assigned to myself, to be completed today. Any task created in this manner should automatically have a deadline of today. Sometimes I need to add a bunch of todo items to my day. I just want to type them out and go to work. Going through extra steps to assign an obvious deadline is unnecessary. Otherwise, I wouldn’t create the task there, or if it was a mistake, then I correct it.

Unfortunately the my task pane is one of the bad things in asana. There are a lot of good concepts for the my task section in the project management world but asanas solution really lacks of a clear and userfriendly concept. Asana is always improving his good piece of software but the priority of their roadmap is hard to believe. Sind years there is no improvement in the my task view although it is one of the most important places. :frowning:

Hi @Marie, @Natalia

I understand and appreciate the benefit of personal prioritization, but why not add additional list e.g “Due Today” that will be populated automatically based on the task’s due date, and keep the existing “Today” list and its current functionality, but maybe rename it to something like “Current” or “Active” or “In progress” or something similar that would indicate that a user prioritized the task for work?

This would solve the issues people have in this threat, and would still offer option to prioritize a task by a user.

This is the kind of behaviour that prevents me from paying Asana premium, I mean am I supposed to assign a due date and, on that date, spend time to assign those tasks into the “Today” section? I use Asana to save time, not to do some extra work

Hi all, with the recent update in My Tasks, you can create a rule that automatically moves all new tasks added to the “Recently assigned section” that are due today to the “Today” section. See more details in our announcement here:
