We know that maintaining a clean workspace requires the confidence to delete items without the fear of losing them forever. Based on the thoughtful feedback shared in threads like Restore / Improve deleted items view, we’ve updated how Asana handles deleted content to make the process more reliable and transparent.
This update introduces a more robust safety net for your work, ensuring that recovery is straightforward and centralized. And it’s available on all Asana plans, including free. That’s right, everyone gets access to the new Trash experience!
What’s New?
A centralized ‘Deleted’ view accessible from the Search bar. There, you can find, review, filter and restore deleted items all in one place.
Projects are now easier to recover, appearing in the ‘Deleted’ view alongside tasks and messages. Restoring a project is just a few clicks away.
Project, task, and message admins can now view deleted items and recover them directly. Domain admins can also delete any public project, task, or message, and super admins have visibility into deleted private projects and tasks as well.
Click on the Search bar at the top of your Asana window.
In the menu that appears, look under the Saved searches section.
Select Deleted to open the dedicated view.
From there, you can browse all deleted tasks, projects, and messages, preview their content, and choose to Restore or Permanently delete them. Deleted items are recoverable for up to 30 days.
.. I thought it would be a dedicated item in the sidebar, like Home, Inbox, My tasks but instead it’s a saved search which doesn’t quite align with ‘Asana’s navigation’, right?
Hi @Richard_Sather, @Bryan_TeamKickstart and @Tanner_Wilson! Thank you so much for the feedback! I do believe this will evolve further in the near future, but I’ll share your comments with our PMs so they have this in mind.
Richard, you are right, the description did sound a bit confusing. I’ve removed the “Navigation” portion and changed it to “Search”
Tanner, the 30-day window is currently set to align with our standard data protection guidelines, but I’ve noted your feedback regarding a longer recovery period in case that’s something we can revisit down the road!
LOVE the rollout! For the next iteration, it would be great to display deleted items in order of most recently deleted, rather than in random order. This would make it much easier and faster to locate recently deleted tasks, improving efficiency and reducing frustration when quick recovery is needed.
