List view *can* show all tasks' due times…if you know the secret

Warm-up riddle (oldie): What gets bigger the more you take away?

A hole!

Asana riddle: What shows you more the smaller you make it?

The tasks list in List view! At smaller widths, it will show all tasks’ due times.

Where can you get this to happen in Asana?

In List view, either in My Tasks or in any project.

I thought task times only show for Due dates of Today and Tomorrow?

Yes, that’s the behavior of the Due date column, as shown below. All four tasks have Due times, but only those due today and tomorrow will include the time value:

What’s the secret to seeing task times for every task that includes time?

Asana uses responsive design when it lays out the list view tasks list, meaning that it changes layouts depending on how much room is available for the content. It adds date and time info right-justified in the task title column (unrelated to the Due date column).

In the screenshots below, narrower than the screenshot above, note that you will see times appear below a certain width. Too narrow and only the task title title will appear:

What are different approaches you can use to adjust the tasks list’s width so it reacts responsively?

Experiment with these approaches to find the right minimum and maximum width for your particular device:

  • The simplest is to change the window’s width.

  • Or you can use the browser’s zoom level (Cmd/Ctrl++/-)

  • A favorite of mine exploits the fact that opening the task detail pane narrows the tasks list and may allow you to see the times appear without even having to resize or zoom the window. Note that you can also adjust the width of the task detail pane (and thus the remaining space for the tasks list) by dragging the vertical slider left or right. The second image shows the task detail pane opened, reducing the width of the tasks list enough to cause the Due dates and times to appear:

  • When in a project’s List view, the Assignee (unnecessary in My Tasks) appears to the right of the Due date/time:

Want to see times in the Due date column always (not just for today and tomorrow)?

Thanks for writing, @Vanessa_N, and I can’t believe I found something you don’t already know!

Yesterday Forum Leader @David_Jane said the same, another long-time Asana expert!!

Thanks,
