Hi everyone!
I’d like to request an increase to the maximum number of single-select & multi-select options allowed per custom field, ideally raising it from 500 to somewhere around 2,000–3,000 ![]()
This request came from a workaround we developed to address a major limitation in the Calendar View. When you have multiple custom fields, subtasks, or multihomed tasks, the calendar quickly becomes cluttered and the task titles unreadable. On top of that, you can’t see start time, only due time. This has been one of the biggest pain points in our organization since multiple departments heavily rely on the calendar for daily operations.
To make the daily and weekly view of tasks cleaner and more usable, we built a system using two single-select custom fields:
-
Day of the Year
-
Week Number
With the help of custom scripts, whenever a task receives a due date, the automation assigns the corresponding week and day of the year values automatically. If those options don’t exist yet, it creates them on the fly (cheers to the script actions team
)
This setup has been a game-changer for us, allowing us to group tasks by day or week on grid view for a much cleaner and more useful workaround to the Calendar View. You can easily see start times, durations, and key details without overwhelming the interface.
However, as tasks and events span across multiple years, the “Day of the Year” field quickly hits the 500-option limit, which prevents the system from working long-term.
Increasing this limit would open the door for many creative and advanced workflow solutions that rely on dynamic field values, not just ours, but for other teams using Asana in similar scalable ways.
