How we automated our daily briefing with Claude and Asana

My mornings used to start with three tabs — Outlook, Teams, and Asana — and by the time I’d triaged all three, a chunk of my morning was already gone. So, we built a custom skill in Claude Cowork that pulls everything into one brief each morning.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pulls today’s Outlook calendar and flags anything that needs prep
  2. Scans the last 24 hours of email and Teams chat for unanswered asks — including threads where I promised to follow up and haven’t
  3. Pulls my Asana tasks due today or overdue and surfaces the top ones
  4. For team leaders, surfaces a count of overdue tasks by direct report
  5. Looks ahead five business days and flags any high-stakes meetings that need prep now

The whole thing renders as a structured brief — same sections every day — and takes about a minute to generate.

Why Asana is the anchor

Outlook tells me where I need to be. Teams tells me what people are saying. Asana tells me what I said I’d do and when. Having that surfaced every morning, without navigating to a project board, means things don’t fall through the cracks. For team leaders, the skill also surfaces a count of overdue tasks by direct report — an easy way to spot who might need a check-in before something slips.

Well done, @Nicole_Phillips.

It’ll be exciting to see the new Stack AI acquisition make this something that can be done inside Asana.

A few questions:

  • How long have you been running this?
  • How many are using it?
  • Have you set it up as a scheduled task, or it’s manually triggered only?
  • How long does it take to run the full task and generate the brief?

I’ve tested daily briefings in a couple of different iterations, and found each time that in some ways “the work is actually the product,” as the AI would put it. Sifting through and manually triaging gives me a background sense of what’s happening that I feel lacking when I have AI do that work for me.

But then, I was starting from an already hyper-structured state of play with manageable volume.

Hi @Liohn_Sherer Yes, I am super curious to see how the new Stack AI acquisition as well.

  • We have been running this for several months now. We started with a small group, roughly 6 people and it has grown. I don’t have visibility to the total numbers but it is at least up to 12 people now.
  • This skills is a scheduled task that runs every day (during the work week), at the same time.
  • It doesn’t take long for it to generate the briefing. Some days it is fairly quick, maybe a minute or less, and some days several minutes. It just depends upon the activity level.
