How to: When a task enters into a section, the assignee with change to the task creator

I tried this rule, and it’s not working

When Task is moved to Rejected > Do this Set assignee to (task creator)

*will

How to: When task enters into a section, the assignee will change to Task Creator

Currently, Asana’s built-in rules don’t support dynamically assigning a task to its creator when it’s moved to a specific section. You can set up a rule to assign the task to a specific user upon moving it, but not dynamically to the creator.

As a workaround, you might consider using a custom field to capture the task creator’s name and then manually reassign the task based on this information when it enters the desired section. Alternatively, exploring third-party automation tools like Flowsana could provide more dynamic assignment capabilities, though this would involve additional setup and potential costs.

Actually I believe that’s possible, see image

Hi @Bastien_Siebman, this is possible if the user uses the add Task button inside Asana. What if it is via a form, and the task creator also have Asana. Can Asana check the text in a textbox and check if the person is an Asana user?

then add them as creator.

You can’t change the creator, ever. Even with the API. So through a form the only way you’ll see the submitter as creator is if the form is limited to the Org only. You can’t have a public form I believe and expect Asana to identify whether or not the person has an account, this doesn’t exist

found a walk around to it, create a Field type (people) and manually input the person. by doing this, you can populate assignee via field

Be careful the Person field can only contain users with a license

Asana doesn’t auto assign tasks to creators. Flowsana can do it or just assign manually.
