How to remove “typo’d” email address?

Hi Asana folks,

My partner and I are new to Asana and we’re in the “figuring things out” phase with our free Starter account. My partner accidentally typo’d my name when assigning a task to me, and now that incorrect name shows up in the form of an email address in every task, and nothing we’ve done seems to get rid of it. What do we do?

Welcome, @Huxley_Dunsany, and sorry to hear this.

Can you include a screenshot (without revealing an private info) so we can see where the incorrect address appears so we can help?

Regardless, the following may help:

If you’ve not done any work with that incorrect address but it did create a real user, you can ignore the first part of that post but at least follow the link in that post to the Asana Help info on removing/deprovisioning the user.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi @lpb!

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. The “user” I’m trying to purge was never created in the first place, at least not in the formal sense. This “user” was literally created because a task was assigned to a non-existent email address (“hux@ourdomain.org”), now I just cannot get the dang thing to stop showing up as a suggested user every time we create a task. I did try going through the steps in the link you shared, but since we’re currently on a Personal plan, virtually all of the Admin panels are locked / unavailable. Feels crazy to be unable to complete such a simple task!

Oh, and here’s a screenshot - the third “user” doesn’t exist and never should exist but cannot be purged

Ah, I see.

I’m not positive this will work, but you could either try this or just directly ask Support to help.

You could try adding hux to a team that you manage (you could create a new team). Click on the team name in the left panel to open the team page then get to Members then add hux there. After hux is listed in the Members list, remove him. That may then give you option to deprovision him; do that.

Otherwise, contact support with this temporary approach:

Thanks,

Larry
