🔍 How to find the rule that did the thing

If you’re working with rules a lot you’re going to love this update!

Figuring out which rule did what can be a hassle sometimes.

The first step is to scroll down to the comment section of a task and select All activity:

This will give you all the details of what happened to the task:

When you hover over ⚡ Asana you will get a tooltip telling you which rule was responsible for the action:

This is great, but there are a couple of challenges:

  • If the task is in multiple projects, this won’t tell you which project the rule is in
  • If the rule has a generic name it might be a challenge to find it

But here is what you can do: just click ⚡ Asana, and it will take you to the rule in question!

Now I’m not sure how long this has been a thing, nor if this is available to everyone. This makes me curious to hear if it works for you!

PS: Now that you’ve found the rule, you might aswell give it a better name.

This is great and we use this all of the time. The issue I face is that once you get to the actual rule there is no way of identifying which project you are in. We have several rules with the same name so that is the issue we run into.

Also, on a slightly unrelated topic it would be amazing if you could create a rule template and apply to several projects. Does anyone know how to do this?

The way to accomplish this currently, if you’re on an Enterprise or Enterprise+ plan, is to use bundles.

Thanks for sharing this @Jan-Rienk I have had this for a while. I always use the all activity button and have it as default view rather than only comments. It is very useful!

Hi @Rashad_Issa , you can set it to All activity once and it should persist as the default, on the user level.

Also the option to click it?
Since how long?

Such a handy feature.

Curious, as for me it also persists as how I’ve viewed the last task.

You are both right! I had not noticed it persisted in the views. @Richard_Sather and @Jan-Rienk
