How to delete an unused custom field

Hi everyone,

We have two custom fields for “Priority” in Asana—one is the default field, and the other was created by a coworker. The problem is that I’m unable to delete the custom field created by my coworker, even though it’s not being used in any project or template.

This has been frustrating because when adding the Priority field to a new project, we often can’t tell which one is the correct one. As a result, we have to go through the extra steps of checking the field in the library and sometimes even remapping all tasks to the correct field.

Does anyone know how we can resolve this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Asana created fields (you can see by the Asana logo) cannot be deleted. I’m not sure how you ended up with two of those.

My advice would be not to use Asana created fields at all.

For non-asana created fields you can rename them, and maybe prefix them with an emoji so it is easier to disginguish: ⚖️ Priority

I thought that it’s an Asana created field, but as you can also see it was added by a coworker. I don’t even know how that’s possible. Can’t people from Asana remove one of these fields?

Hope you don’t mind the question, but why wouldn’t you recommend using Asana created fields?

Not sure how this happens, but somehow the fields seem to have been duplicated.

I don’t think so, but you could try support: How to contact our Support Team 📧

They can’t be edited, which makes it likely you’ll regret it at some point. (like now not being able to rename)
