I’m relatively new to Asana and love all the bells and whistles as I’ve been pouring over videos and articles and help posts, but what I need is, I think, relatively simple. I just need a simple overview of my projects as they move through distinct stages (sections as you call them). Each stage (section) has core tasks, but may change as the project evolves. In the end, I just want to be able to see something like this…
@Stephen_Li Thanks for the reply. I’m on an enterprise account. I’d love to make this work with Asana, but am also open to other suggestions. I appreciate the help!
@Jae6 - as an enterprise user, you’ll have access to unlimited portfolios. Check out that help article I posted for a primer, but basically, if you add all your projects to a portfolio and create a progress dropdown field for each of your 5 stages, you’d be able to replicate your image.
Alternatively, you could explore using the recently-released stacked bar charts to accomplish this. E.g., task report, x-axis=project, group by stage, count tasks, filter for incomplete. As an enterprise account, you will have access to universal dashboards to do this.
I agree with @Stephen_Li with the suggestion of exploring a stacked bar chart, but maybe set up differently.
You could do one chart per project, and either do that in each Project’s dashboard, or all of them in the portfolio dashboard or all in a dashboard in Universal Reporting. They might look like this:
This is not the exact same thing you depict, but the closest facsimile in Asana, except for one other idea I haven’t explored: Using the Goals feature with automatic progress calculation by project/tasks or project/milestones. That might be harder to do than the above.
I think the underlying issue in Asana with respect to your request is that there’s no way to sum up that info automatically from projects to portfolio (other than what is recommended here). Portfolios can sum up Milestones (change the portfolio progress column from tasks to milestones and save) but it is limited to 12. It would be nice if there were more alternatives for that column, or otherwise supporting more rollups. Maybe I’ll add a Product Feedback sometime.
@Stephen_Li@lpb Thank you both! I’ll try your suggestions and I’m sure I’ll have more questions so please leave this thread open!
Tangential question - I feel like an expert with deep knowledge of the platform could either help me or teach me to create what I’m looking for in just a few hours. Does anything like that exist within Asana or do I need to look for an outside freelancer?
