We are currently paying for a workspace for an Advanced tier with 15 seats, but we cannot invite guests outside our org because we are just paying for the workspace and not the org. My question is: can I collaborate as a guest with another company or person who paid for their license and invite them to my project without buying more seats, as they already pay for their own?

The answer is yes, as long as you convert your space to an organization. You may also try within the Admin console settings, if it allows you to convert to an organization. But if you are unsure, your best bet will be to reach out to Asana support who have the means to do this for you and explain the nuances. You may ask them to optionally set you up as a Division instead.
