The sidebar update is absolutely terrible for me. Did Asana’s innovation team need to show activity and so randomly came up with this “improvement”? I see a lot of similar responses in this thread that are critical of the new sidebar solution. Our team was on the verge of deciding to invest in a paid Workspace. Unfortunately, we will probably have to look for an alternative. Asana will become unusable for us with this update.
I found a solution!!! Add your projects to “Starred”. A new “starred” section will show in the sidebar and you can drag and drop the order just like the previous version of Projects.
This new design was going to be a deal breaker for me so I hope they don’t remove the drag and drop sorting option for Starred too.
Recently there seems to have been an update and now to view the projects in each team I need to select that team?
How do I turn this off?
This seems to be just a new update now? I have to say it is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen in an update. Definitely top 10.
Sure, make these new categories available for users but don’t take away the convenience of an existing single-click functionality. Retain the possibility of having the previous view by adding an expand or retract option on the team, why have it on these new categories but not the actual team? Its as if Asana have gone out of their way to make the experience worse.
Now I have to press on team or hover over that arrow to reach my projects, which ultimately means its still a two step process. Why do this?
Hi @CreativeNorthMedia , I’ve merged your post into this existing thread where your votes have been consolidated.
I’ve been reading others’ feedback on the sidebar redesign (and in several threads) for months now and my team has yet to see the new version. Is there something we’re doing wrong? When can we expect all these exciting changes?? @Marie
Joke update! I’d like my projects in the left sidebar organised alphabetically as all my projects are Prefixed with job numbers to reflect my systems job folders. Why use a random Top/Recent sorting system?
Hello @Lauren_Cotten,
This update should be available to all users shortly. Let me check in with our team and come back to you with more details.
Thanks so much for following up with me on this! I honestly get so excited to see the new redesign when I come into work every morning and get a little disappointed when it’s not here yet
I spoke with Asana support yesterday and found out there is no way to rollback these changes, absolutely wild. Also, I’m fairly certain I didn’t tick the box for testing new features when they are available.
I can forgive a clerical error, but this is all completely unacceptable and the kind of amateur nonsense I expect from Microsoft, as such I’m moving to another platform. I won’t encourage other users to do the same though I will say that if this is how Asana handles something as simple as rolling out an AB test, then consider what else they will do for more complex technical tasks such as cyber security.
Maybe the user Interface team will consider pop out windows for the next revision. Allow the user to customize the look and feel, permit docking or undocking. Add a context sensitive search to each window. Projects, portfolios, rules, people, goals, teams - any and all properties can be readily accessed to meet the needs of every client.
I received the new update that took away the ability to sort my project by team a short while ago, but I quickly added a task to asana to remind me to look for the setting that would allow me to switch it back to being grouped by teams. You can guess my surprise when I went to look for it today, I found out that you can’t do this.
You’ve implemented a change that changes how some people fundamentally work and make it more cumbersome to use. So here I am adding my voice to the discontent.
You could have at least been thoughtful enough to make this a configuration setting and let people choose how they want to work. Please either change it back, or add a setting that allows users to choose. And hopefully not 3 years from now, because I won’t stay around waiting that long.
This redesign was a horrible decision, now we have our projects, teams, etc. organized the way YOU THINK is best for us, no the way WE FIND more useful for our daily tasks and responsibilities. So I think it is your way or the highway, right?
Hi,
Recently the new sidebar redesign hit our company, and so far everyone has been saying they’d like the option to toggle it to the old version.
I understand providing new options and redesigns that help provide different ways of organization, I think the sidebar redesign is fine, but I don’t believe it works with how we’ve been using Asana for years.
We should at least have the choice on how we want to use a platform utilized for our business, rather than have changes forced upon us on how Asana thinks we should be doing things.
The solution here is fairly simple, could we just please have a TOGGLE option? This would soothe almost every single complaint as I’ve seen 50/50 feedback on this new sidebar redesign. I highly doubt it would be difficult to implement, and it would definitely deter us and others from looking for an Asana alternative, as it’s very alarming to know our workflow can be interrupted by a forced change.
Thank you.
My sidebar interface just changed and now I can’t see all my project in the order that I organized.
I applaud ASANA’s effort on continuously improving their app, but this update is a bummer to me. ASANA should allow users to choose existing sidebar organization method.
I can say for myself that I would like this compromise. I would definitely keep the original features of the teams and their projects, including the drag&drop function.
I get the impression that you are following the path of other planning services. Please don’t do this. Recent changes greatly worsen the functionality of the service, it has become inconvenient to work. Please:
- bring back the view of projects within groups without a drop-down window
- remove the top panel, it reduces the space on the screen.
Better - roll back the last changes - they are definitely inconvenient.
Who in their right mind thought this would be a great idea, its unworkable in my field, and right before our busiest time of year please roll this back its a nightmare for us. And please don’t say Use it and you will get used to it
This rollout is a nightmare for our business can you please roll this back. Or I will have to look at soemthing else
Please add/restore the old Project full list view in the sidebar NOW!!
This update is a REAL NIGHTMARE!
