We’ve recently has some contractors leave and we removed their external accounts from all projects in which they were members. But they continue to receive email when activity occurs on items in which they were tagged or created. How can we prevent this?

Even if they have been removed from a project, if they are a collaborator on a task, they could still be notified.
If you have access to advanced search, you can search for incomplete tasks where they may still be a collaborator. Once you have identified the tasks, you can bulk select (up to 50 at a time), then click on the three dots on the bulk action pop-up on the bottom of the screen, select “add collaborators” and then click the x next to their name to remove them.

@Matt_Crandall, Additionally, they could be notified if they are task Assignee, so you could execute a similar search but with them in the Assignee field instead of Collaborator field.
